Dorothy R. Kolar, age 93 of Lambertville, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of John and Mary (Hartman) Ascheman, she was born February 7, 1921, in Clontarf, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her husband, Stanley D. Kolar, whom she wed June 1, 1940, her son, Dean J. Kolar, D.D.S., and son-in-law, J. David Rouleau, D.D.S.
After the death of her husband, May 9, 1960, Dorothy worked for Michigan Gas Utilities over 20 years. Upon retirement, Dorothy became more active in volunteer work in the community through R.S.V.P., serving the Bedford Library, Bedford Public Schools, and the Lion’s Den, as well as St. Anthony Catholic Church. Dorothy was a voracious reader and loved crossword puzzles, playing cards, traveling and gardening. Her bountiful table was laden with home cooked meals enjoyed by family and friends.
She is survived by her loving children, Margaret Rouleau, David (Cherie) Kolar, Geneva (Gerard) Pound, Daniel (Karen) Kolar, Dale (Brandy) Kolar, Duane (Mary) Kolar, 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4605 St. Anthony Road, Temperance, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am in the church narthex. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Catholic Relief Services or Capuchian Soup Kitchen.
